What Would John Simpson Do?

  1. John- LOVE your new site! Now I can be "in the know" about all things John Simpson! Perhaps there should be a section on John's favorite movie quotes like "Instead of the Mahi-Mahi, can I get just the one Mahi, because I'm not that hungry?" or "This is not a democracy, it's a cheerocracy" Lynette

  2. John, I am a stylist that I think is stuck. I tend to use like a thousand foils to create a blonde that has demension. Can you help me to find a different approach to developing a faster method?

  3. Hey John, That was a sick color class. In Schectady NY on September 14th at Glen Sanders. Loved it. Here is the stupid thing though. When I got home and reviewed my notes I didn't write down the color formulas for the second model. "Eva Mendes." Chocolate brown. Can you send them to me. Wonder if you might want to include them in the training packet for reference in the future. Then you won't get these kind of crazy emails, haha. I'm a a commercial makeup artist honing my hair skills. Check out my website at www.makemefabulous.com. And thanks for the great class and getting back to me. Alayne

  4. Hey John. Just wanted to write a note of thanks for coming to Spokane. We don't get people of your calibur in our redneck of the woods. My staff and I really enjoyed it and you challenged and educated us above and beyond our expectations. Thank you again. Kasey ( LOL, I used to be fat.) of 14th and Grand salon.

  5. Dear John, Will you marry me? Thanks a heap! --Victoria T.

  6. Sakari Salon would like to THANKYOU. Fabulous class you had everyone thinking outloud. We now have a great start to the season. The ideas are flying and you have the staff feeling recharged.

  7. Hi John loved your class in Memphis. I have an older lady XL 5A with lvl 4gish LL and really bad lv 8/9 brassy, gold highlights. She is less 24% grey. Im going to do her base and ends via compact foils from the class. She "Hates RED and Orange". Id like to soften base up to between 5/6 B controlled! and bring HL down to a 7 and try and diffuse some of the darker LL. Heres what Im thinking: NG: 25 vol/15CC 5N/25cc 6SB or std N/B and A diffuse LL w/40 vol and BC w/7mb fill H/L with gold pre-pig and then 10 vol 7/gb & 7/n or I can just do an overlay after I do NG and diffuse darker areas. Im basically doing "basement" hair right now while looking for a salon thats a good fit as Ive recently moved to another state. Your opinion would be great as I dont have my "security blanket" and dont want to make her an ugly mess. She has warm eyes and warm/olive skin. Thank you

  8. John, Just attended your class in Depew, N.Y. I have been in the profession over 40 yrs and still learning. Loved your class , can't wait to start reformulating some of the colors and trying new placements Thanks again

  9. John loved all the photos from TrendZoom, you guys are a great inspiration. Whatr are some of your favorite "toner" formulas when lightening lvls 3 - 6 darker/med browns? Especially the latino and persian hair that tends to be coarser and not pull up well. Some formulas for carmel color/pretty kopper/coffee-toffee shade. I tend to get stuck using same thing and we know we cant do that on everyone. Thank you!

  10. John, One of my clients brought in the model for rockmantic trendzoom 2008. I was wondering if that color was used with max reds or elumen if so please share the formula please. I have a basic idea but i want to see if we are on the same page. Thank you so much and by the way you are a hair GENIUS and i couldnt ever get enough of your education.

  11. hi john. i have a client who wants to be a platinum blonde....her re-touch is a level 3 and each time i do it i've tried different techniques to reach that platinum level but i still cant get there....i always end up with gold that even the strongest toner wont relieve....i'm looking to you for advice....thanks and happy holidays!

  19. Hello John, Just wanted to say thank you for coming into our salon on March 22 @ Jenniffer and Co! I am a new hairstylist starting out and I really appreciate the time you took with me. You have inspired me to be a bit more daring than being more than chocolate and vanilla. I don't think I will ever look at a picture of a sunset as just a sunset. I will now take a picture and make it and interpretation to someones hair. So thanks again and you inspire me to go big! Amanda

  20. Hey John, I'm a student from KY and I sat in on your Color Zoom 2010 class that you taught this weekend in Chicago. I just wanted to say that I thought it was incredible and I learned a whole lot. You rock! Are students able to enter the color zoom contest? I am a senior student and want to become a master colorist once I graduate and begin my career. Thanks again for the great information. I learned so much. -Kevin Ford

  21. Dear John, I have a question about goldwell fillers. I have never used or been taught about fillers, pleeaaassse educate me on this. Why are they all warm? When do I use each color?

  22. Hi John, I have a client who went pre-maturely grey at the age of 16 (hereditary) and is now 47 She is fair skinned with a reddish complexion and blue eyes, with curly fine hair. I have recently been using Goldwell 7N in the Topchic, having tried other combinations of 7B which brings out too much red and recently put some blond highlights in but it washes her out and fried her hair. She is 100% white not grey. What shade/ color combination would you suggest that isn't high maintenance for this client? she talks about wanting to go natural as she is tired of coming in every 3 weeks for touch ups. Would love to send her to you to do your magic but would settle for your advice which I value. Thanks John and looking forward to your reply

  23. hey john!!!!! i'm sooooooo glad i found u! LOVE LOVE LOVE u! well i've been having trouble with 11 and 12 series.... they tend to get real gold. is there a trick for that at all? let me know!!!!! thanks!!!! houa

  24. Hi john, First off I attended your class in seattle and am loving the rose pattern. It was exactly what I've been looking for dimensional coloring! Thank you!!! I have a question on decolorizing.I went to one goldwell class that said to use a color remover first then to use blonding cream afterwards to remove even more pigment. Then my boss went to another class and that instructor told her to do the blonding cream FIRST then the color remover...So were just wondering which one is correct or if both are and when to use which? I really respect your work and would love to hear what you think. Thank you so much!!! Hannah Bradley from Au Salon in Portland, OR

  25. Hey John, I was in you color presentation at Valley Ho in Scottsdale this last sunday. I was searching for doorway out of the horizontal block foil prison!! 26. Hi john, I am a stylist who reasontly covered my 10b and 8b hair with 5rb.Which has done some fading, thank heavens. After I color removed most of it then put on 7mb. I am a natural 7. I know diffrent ways to get my blonde back, but what is the safest way. I will stay dark before I will burn up my hair. which is what I would tell a customer. So help me. I know you know how:) Oh and a ? is color remover damaging to the hair?

  27. John, I would just like to say, Dolce loved your class today! You truely inspired me to find what makes me tick as well as try new things.(not an easy task) There is nothing worse than a hair stylist that does the same thing on every client. Thanks again!

  28. Hey John. Dylan here from Studio MZ in Cleveland. I just got the BTC email w/ a new blonde formulation from you. it says that you're using 40 mls of 20 vol, 10 mls of 7BSG and 20 mls of 8GB. are you really only using 10 mls of 7BSG or is that a misprint? also, are you using this for a natural 6 or a 7? thanks John! D

  29. OMG! Mr. Simpson!! I've seen different write ups about your fab career & in the May The colorist with Dimitriou Tsioumas. 30. Hi John, I had a great time in your class. I just wanted to say thank you for sharing your genius. I always say that if I can learn at least one thing in a class it was so well worth the money and the time spent. Well I learned allot more than one thing and that is FRIGEN AWESOME. I can't wait to see you again and enjoy another one of your motivating classes. Thanks again. Jose Rojas at HiLites Hair Studio
